John Illman spent eight years as The Guardian's Health Editor and five years as the Daily Mail's medical correspondent. A former GP editor, he is now lecturing, writing a series of books and has set up a video production company. His publications include The Body Machine with the heart transplant pioneer Christiaan Barnard.

Philippa Pigache - Honorary Secretary
Philippa Pigache is honorary secretary of the MJA and editor of the journal, MJA News. Her journalism has covered everything except crime and sport over the past 35 years, and she also writes books, plays and short stories. She has been on local newspapers, women’s magazines, national newspapers, radio and television, including the Sunday Times, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, The Guardian, ITN and BBC science features. She was quiz-queen for Cosmopolitan, an agony auntie for Woman’s Realm, and more recently has specialized in health and medical science for professional readers. She has published several general readership books on medical conditions and health. She has won awards for her medical journalism, her books and also for her fiction.

Brandon Broll - Honorary Webmaster
Brandon Broll is an award winning freelance medical and science journalist and author. He has written for the national press in South Africa and Britain, as well as for the Reader's Digest and National Geographic. He is web editor at Science Photo Library.
Dr Maya Anaokar is an experienced medical reporter, formerly science editor on Doctor and Hospital Doctor. She has freelanced since 2006 after six years in ethical public relations. Dr Anaokar has work published in consumer, trade and scientific journals.
Ashley McKimm (junior doctor and journalist) qualified in 2003; currently works part-time in psychiatry with a special interest in addictions; completed a degree in medical journalism and founded JuniorDr magazine – the UK's largest free distribution magazine for doctors up to consultant level – and the journal Trauma. He has written books and freelances for consumer and trade press.
